Panda has released a free anti-Virus that resides mostly in the internet cloud. This is a new type of anti-virus where only a small program is installed on your PC and the rest of the work is done on the internet. The program is easy and fast to install and the user interface is very simple, although you will need to register an account with Panda to activate the software.
The clever thing about this anti-virus is that it uses what Panda call “Collective Intelligence” servers. What this means is that each PC with the software installed sends anonymous samples to the servers to be processed. When new types of malware are detected on a PC, they are disinfected and protected against. Other users in the community are then also protected. Another good feature of Panda Cloud Anti-virus is that it is low on resources, so it will not slow your PC down like some other anti-virus programs on the market. This is because most of the processing is done in the cloud. In recent independent tests, Panda Cloud Anti-virus detected between 85 to 99% of infections. It’s early days, but Panda’s Cloud Antivirus gives excellent protection and considering it’s free it’s definitely worth a try.
